PREVENT FALSE ALARMS - Proper Preparation Can Avoid Costly FALSE ALARMS

 

Before Activating Your Alarm System;

  • Securely lock all exterior doors, including sliding/swinging patio doors. All deadbolt devices should be engaged, as well as any security bars.
  • All windows must be closed and locked to ensure that all contacts are properly aligned.
  • Make sure that newly placed items or decorations around doors and windows do not interfere with either the door or window contacts or the motion sensors.
  • Secure any interior/exterior garage entry doors with a deadbolt device.
  • Be sure to close your overhead door when exiting the garage.
  • Keep pets, helium-filled balloons, fans, heaters, plants, etc., away from motion sensor areas.
  • Once arming your system, be sure to make your exit in the time allowed.
  • Wait a few minutes before driving off to make sure your alarm system does not cause a false activation.
  • If your alarm system should activate, don't panic! Re-enter your home or business, then enter your code to deactivate your alarm. Contact central station and let them know it's a false alarm. 
  • Make sure your emergency contact list is current and accurate. Review this list about every 6 months to be sure all contact information is correct.
  • Do not give out your alarm code to just anyone. Only a family member or trusted friend should know the code and be able to operate your system. 
  • A Monitored alarm systems is effective at deterring burglars.

Other tips to help prevent false alarms;

  • Make sure you Test your system monthly.
  • Visually inspect your system to be sure all devices are securely mounted.
  • Review your procedures for arming and disarming your system. If you need a user guide you may call our office or you can get one from our website under customer resources.
  • Make sure everyone who has access to your home/business is familiar with your alarm system.
  • Teach everyone how to cancel a false alarm.
  • Keep your central station phone number in an easy to find location.
  • Contact us to assign each person their own personal passcode.
  •  BE SURE TO TEST YOUR SYSTEM MONTHLY.
